More cases jump coronavirus case tally to 1,199

Seventeen more individuals have tested positive in PCR tests carried out for COVID-19 infection, stated the Ministry of Health.

According to the Director-General of Health, all 17 cases were identified among persons who had returned from Kuwait and undergoing mandatory quarantine.

With the new cases, the tally of total coronavirus cases identified in the country moves to 1,199.

Currently, 477 active cases are under medical care at selected hospitals across the island, as the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry.

With 17 patients being discharged upon recovery earlier today (26), the count of recoveries recorded in the country is at 712.

Sri Lanka reported its 10th death last evening (25) as a 51-year-old woman who arrived in the country from Kuwait succumbed to the virus. She had been suffering from heart conditions prior to the death, stated the Ministry of Health.
