Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 infections mount to 1,317 with 39 fresh cases

Thirty-nine new cases of COVID-19 have pushed Sri Lanka’s infections tally to 1,317 as of 9.30 pm today (26).

A total of 96 new cases were detected earlier today. Out of these cases, 88 were returnees from Kuwait who are undergoing quarantine at facilities in Trincomalee and Minneriya. The remaining 8 – navy personnel, who are also under quarantine.

Sri Lanka witnessed the highest daily surge of virus cases today with a record total of 135 new infections.

Meanwhile, the count of recoveries reported in the country reached 712 today, with 17 more coronavirus-positive patients returning to health.

On that account, the number of active coronavirus cases who are under medical care stands at 595, according to the Epidemiology Unit’s tally.

Sri Lanka reported its 10th death on Monday (25) as a 51-year-old woman who had arrived in the country from Kuwait succumbed to the disease. The Ministry of Health confirmed that this coronavirus victim was suffering from heart conditions prior to her passing.
