Divisional Secretary and Director Planning arrested on bribery charge

The Akkaraipattu - Alayadivembu Divisional Secretary and the Secretariat’s Director (Planning) have been arrested by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

The two state officials were arrested while soliciting a bribe of Rs 300,000 from an unofficial contractor in order to award a contract for the construction of a road.

The value of the contract awarded is reportedly Rs 6 million while the two suspects have attempted to obtain a  bribe of Rs 300,000 to award it to the contractor.
