COVID-19: Eight new cases hike total to 1,628

Eight more individuals have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the Ministry of Health confirmed a short while ago.

Among the infected are one Sri Lanka Navy personnel and seven persons who were undergoing quarantine upon arrival from Russia.

Thereby, the total count of COVID-19 infections reported from Sri Lanka is now at 1,628 cases.

Meanwhile, twenty patients who had been receiving treatment for the virus were discharged from their respective hospitals today (31) hiking the tally of recoveries in the country to 801.

A total of 817 active cases are under medical care at selected hospitals across the island, according to the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry.

Sri Lanka reported its 10th COVID-19 death on May 25 as a 51-year-old woman who had arrived in the country from Kuwait succumbed to the disease.
