Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa took oath as the new Minister of Social Empowerment and Estate Infrastructure Development a short while ago.

Previously the relevant portfolio was held by the late Minister Arumugam Thondam.

With the recent passing of the Ceylon Workers’ Congress Leader, the ministerial portfolio was left vacated.

Accordingly, Premier Rajapaksa was sworn into the Cabinet Ministry before President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
