Prices of bakery items including bread will have to be hiked in the coming days, says All Island Bakery Owners’ Association.

This will be due to the recent increase in the prices of the main ingredients required for the bakery industry, said the bakery owners.

Chairman of the Association N. K. Jayawardena points out that the government recently imposed higher taxes on imported goods. This has to unfair higher prices of ingredients used in the bakery industry, he added.

He further said that the government has been informed in writing regarding the issue.

However, no solution is provided, prices of bakery products including bread will have to be hiked by a high amount, said the Chairman.
