Eighteen more persons are confirmed to have contracted the COVID-19 virus, according to the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry.

The latest cases have been identified among those who had recently returned from Qatar, according to the Department of Government Information.

Previously today (03), nine new cases were reported from Sri Lanka. With the new 18 cases, Sri Lanka has reported 27 cases within the day so far.

Accordingly, with the latest 18 cases, the total count of coronavirus cases in the country has jumped to 1,710.

Currently, 863 active cases are under medical care at selected hospitals across the island.

In the meantime, 13 virus-positive patients who had recovered completely were discharged from the Infectious Disease Hospital, Colombo East Base Hospital, and Minuwangoda Base Hospital earlier today. Sri Lanka’s recoveries count thereby moved up to 836.

Sri Lanka reported its 11th COVID-19 death on Monday (01) as a 45-year-old male who had arrived in the country from Kuwait succumbed to the disease.
