March, April, May electricity bills to match February bill

July 15, 2020   03:08 pm

Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy has decided to match electricity bills of the months March, April, and May to that of the February.

Further, consumers will also be granted a grace period of 2 months for the payment of the relevant bills.

Minister Mahinda Amaraweera stated that the government has decided to provide relief to the public by considering the allegations and complaints made in the past regarding the electricity bill in March, April and May 2020.

A committee was also appointed to propose reliefs on electricity bills and the report of the relevant committee was submitted to the Cabinet last week.

Accordingly, the government today (15) decided to allow the payment of electricity bills for the three months of March, April and May to match the bill for February or the minimum bill received thereafter. If the bill for March is less than of the bill for February, then the bills would match the March bill.

There will be no interruptions to the power supply during the grace period granted to settle the bills, said Amaraweera.

If a consumer has already paid the electricity bills for March, April, and May, the excess payment will be refunded or will be added to the next bill, he added.
