Three killed after van falls off precipice near Ravana Ella

A van that veered off the road has fallen down a 150-foot precipice near Ravana Ella on Ella-Wellawaya road, killing 03 passengers on the spot.

Three other men have meanwhile sustained critical injuries, according to the Police.

A total of 06 passengers including the driver were reportedly onboard the van at the time of the incident and five of them were found in a critical condition.

Three of the critically injured passengers have been admitted to Monaragala and Wellawaya hospitals.

Police and Army officers carried out a rescue mission to free the driver of the van who was trapped inside. However, he had already succumbed to injuries.

The persons who met with this unfortunate incident are employees of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) in Badulla.

They had been returning after attending a funeral service.

The police suspect that the driver of the van must have fallen asleep at the wheel causing the vehicle to veer off the road.

Ella Police is conducting further investigations into the incident.
