Woman linked to drug network arrested; Rs 140m in transactions from bank accounts

Police have arrested a woman allegedly involved in a major drug trafficking network and with around Rs 140 million in transactions through five bank accounts.

The 50-year-old woman, who was arrested in the area of Boralesgamuwa, is reportedly the mother of an underworld figure.


In a separate development, another woman was arrested for utilizing money earned from drug dealing.

She is said to be the mother of the notorious underworld figure Janith Madhusanka de Silva alias “Podi Lassie”.

The suspect was taken into custody by the officers of Western Province-North Crimes Division while in hiding in the area of Pannipitiya.

Cash amounting to Rs. 51,000, five mobile phones and 05 passbooks have been seized in possession of the suspect.

The woman is a resident of Anduwatta area in Thelwatta , the police media division said.

She is to be produced before Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court today (25) and the Western Province-North Crimes Division is probing the incident further.
