A group of residents have attacked a team of police officers who had visited the Marawa area in Atalugama, Bandaragama on a drug bust.

Reportedly, the police had arrested a person selling cannabis in the area and interrogation of the suspect has led to the arrest of the main suspect of the drug racket.

When the main suspect was being escorted back to the police station, the residents of the area had obstructed the police jeep and stoned the officers.

According to Ada Derana correspondent, additional police officers as well as the Police Special Task Force have been called in to control the situation.
