The thirteen officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) who were arrested for their alleged links with drug dealers have been further remanded.

They were ordered to be remanded until September 28, when the case was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne today (22).

However, the suspects were not produced before the court today due to the COVID-19 pandemic precautions.

Speaking on behalf of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris said that the suspects were being investigated under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and that statements are required from 11 officers of the PNB who are currently in remand custody.

Accordingly, the Deputy Solicitor General requested the court to issue an order to the Superintendent of the Angunakolapelessa Prison to grant permission for a team of CID officers to obtain statements from the relevant inmates.

The Magistrate granted the request and directed the Superintendent of Prisons to allow the statements of the suspects to be recorded.
