60-year-old arrested for spreading COVID-19 fake news

An individual has been arrested last night (05) for publishing fake news on the prevailing COVID-19 situation in social media platforms.

The arrestee was identified as a 60-year-old residing in Wellawatte, DIG Ajith Rohana said, joining ‘Derana Aruna’ programme this morning.

He further noted that strict legal action will be taken against the persons responsible for spreading fake news on imposing island-wide curfew.

The government has meanwhile urged the general public not to panic over the false news spread on social media.
