A student from Divulapitiya, who is sitting for the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination this year has tested positive for Covid-19, says the Administrative Public Health Inspector of the division, M. Kulatilake.

It is reported that a family member of the student was tested positive for the virus recently.

Following the new development, arrangements were made for 20 candidates, who were identified as associates of the virus-infected student, to take the exam in two groups.

Speaking to Ada Derana on the matter, Commissioner General of Examination, B. Sanath Pujitha said the student in question has been moved to the Iranawila Hospital. He added that arrangements have been made for the student to take the test at the exam centre set up at the hospital.

In the meantime, 75 monks at a temple located in Madapatha, Piliyandala and 10 persons at a worksite in the area have been placed under self-isolation.

The move came after it was confirmed that the mother of one of the monks had contracted the novel coronavirus, the Medical Officer of Health in Kesbewa, Dr. Samanthika Wijesundara said.

Reports revealed that the virus-infected woman was employed at an apparel factory in Katunayake Export Processing Zone (EPZ) and that she had visited the temple in question several days ago.
