October 21, 2020   04:53 pm

An adjournment debate on the Covid-19 situation in the country will be held on Friday (October 23) from 10.00 am to 4.30 pm.

The decision was reached at the meeting of the Committee on Parliamentary Business chaired by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana today (21), says the Communications Department of the Parliament.

During today’s parliamentary sitting, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa had raised queries on the spread of novel coronavirus in the country while MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake called for a debate on the situation.

Taking this into account, the ruling party agreed to hold an adjournment debate on the prevailing Covid-19 situation.

The Government has agreed to hold the Adjournment Debate on Friday (23) from 10.00 am to 4.30 pm on that day opting out Questions for Oral Answers and the lunch break.

Accordingly, the vote on condolence scheduled for that day will not be taken up, the statement said.
