Sri Lanka’s Covid-19 numbers hike with 50 new infections

Sri Lanka saw a surge in the Covid-19 infections as 50 more individuals were tested positive for the virus today (22).

Fresh cases include 22 from garment factories in Katunayake, 06 linked to the Piliyandala Fish Market and 22 close contacts, Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said.

According to the Government Information Department, the total number of positive cases registered by the Minuwangoda cluster thereby hit 2,558.

Total novel coronavirus infections confirmed in Sri Lanka to date reached 6,038, surpassing another grim milestone.

Meanwhile, recoveries from the virus reached 3,561 earlier today, as 60 more patients returned to health and were discharged from hospitals.

The Epidemiology Unit says 2,454 active cases are still receiving treatment at more than 15 hospitals across the island.
