Covid-19 cases rise sharply as 201 more test positive

Sri Lanka has reported 201 more positive cases of Covid-19 this evening, says the Army Chief Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva.

 

According to, 140 of them are close contacts of the coronavirus patients linked to Peliyagoda Fish Market.

 

Meanwhile, 24 other positive cases were identified from several fisheries harbours across the country. The remaining 37 infections have been detected from quarantine centres.

 

The Minuwangoda and Peliyagoda cluster has so far registered 3,883 positive cases in total, the Department of Government Information said.

 

Following the latest update, the total number of Covid-19 confirmed in Sri Lanka shot up to 7,354.

 

The Epidemiology Unit’s statistics revealed that 3,625 active cases are still under medical care at selected hospitals across the country.

 

Recoveries from the virus now stand at 3,714 after 70 persons infected with the virus were discharged from hospitals earlier in the day upon regaining health.

 

Sri Lanka also witnessed its 15th death this morning, as a 56-year-old from Kuliyapitiya fell victim to Covid-19.
