Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda Covid-19 cluster tops 6,000 cases

Sri Lanka’s Covid-19 figures surged yet again as 586 more persons were tested positive for the virus yesterday (29).

Among them are 467 close contacts of earlier patients and 115 persons who are currently at quarantine centres.

Thereby, the total number of positive cases registered by the Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda cluster hit 6,313.

Further 04 naval personnel who arrived from foreign countries (01 Sri Lankan and 03 Indonesians) have also been exposed to the virus, the Department of Government Information said.

With the new development, Sri Lanka has confirmed 9,791 novel coronavirus infections to date.

According to statistics, 4,142 of the confirmed patients have made complete recoveries from the virus.

The Epidemiology Unit says 5,630 active cases are still receiving medical treatment at selected hospitals across the island.

Covid-19 death toll meanwhile went up to 19 on Tuesday (27), as three infected persons including a 19-year-old fell victim to the virus.

Sri Lanka witnessed the highest daily count of Covid-19 cases on the 23rd of October with a record total of 866 fresh positive cases. The second-highest was recorded on the 6th of October with 739 infections.
