Total number of police officers who were infected with Covid-19 has neared 460, says the Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana.

However, several of them have made complete recoveries, he said further.

The Acting Inspector General of Police, in the meantime, has appointed three senior superintendents to look into the coronavirus-positive police officers in the city of Colombo.

Nearly 3,000 police officers are undergoing quarantine procedure at various facilities and all necessary measures are being taken to prevent the spread of the virus he continued.

Novel coronavirus infections among police officers were not a result of disregarding proper hygiene practices, the police spokesperson explained, adding that they somehow had a link to the Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda cluster.
