Sri Lanka’s Covid-19 death toll climbs to 40

Four more persons including a woman who were infected with Covid-19 have died in Sri Lanka, the Director-General of Health Services confirmed a short while ago.

One of the deceased was identified as a 51-year-old male from Rajagiriya. He was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital on the 7th of November and succumbed to the virus while receiving treatment. The cause of heath has been determined as Covid-19 related pneumonia.

The second individual, aged 45 years, is a resident of Colombo 10 area. According to reports, he also fell victim to the virus while at the Colombo National Hospital. He had been under medical care at the hospital since the 23rd of October. He has died of respiratory tract infection caused by Covid-19.

The third death is that of a 63-year-old female from Udugampola in Gampaha. She was admitted to the Gampaha District Hospital on the 9th of November and passed away during treatment. Her cause of death was determined as novel coronavirus infection-related pneumonia.

The fourth victim, suspected to be aged between 55-60 years, is an unidentified male. His remains were referred to the post-mortem examination on the 8th of November and he was posthumously declared to be infected with Covid-19.

With the latest developments, total deaths from Covid-19 confirmed in Sri Lanka have reached 40.
