Coronavirus: 198 fresh cases confirmed

Fresh COVID-19 positive cases were identified in Sri Lanka as the total number of cases reported from the Minuwangoda and Peliyagoda clusters reached 12,425.

The Department of Government Information said 198 more persons were tested positive for the virus. 

All the new cases are close contacts of the Minuwangoda and Peliyagoda clusters, reports confirmed.

With the new development, Sri Lanka has confirmed 15,921 novel coronavirus infections to date.

According to Health Ministry’s data, 11,031 of the confirmed patients have made complete recoveries from the virus.

The Epidemiology Unit says 4,837 active cases are still receiving medical treatment at selected hospitals across the island.

The death toll meanwhile went up to 53 earlier today, as five more patients fell victim to the virus.
