Another coronavirus patient who had attempted to escape from the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) in Angoda has been captured by the hospital security personnel.

The 22-year-old patient had attempted to escape the hospital through its roof, last evening (22).

However, he had been caught by authorities at around 6.30 pm yesterday.

The patient has been transferred to a more secure treatment center following the incident.

According to Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana, the patient in question has been identified to be a drug addict.

Mulleriyawa Police have launched investigations into the matter.

Over a month ago, a COVID-19 patient at the Ragama Hospital had fled from treatment and a few days ago, another woman, along with her child, had also escaped while receiving treatment for COVID-19 infection at the Salawa Hospital, the DIG pointed out.

Therefore, the COVID-19 patients who identified as drug addicts will be dealt with under different tactics in the future, he added.

If an individual identified as a COVID-19 patient is a drug addict, their families are requested to notify the authorities on the matter, the DIG said.

This will ensure that the relevant patient will be referred to a more secure treatment center, he added.
