It has been decided to close all schools in the Kalmunai Education Zone for a period of one week, the Governor of the Eastern Province Anuradha Yahampath stated.

However, the dates for reopening of schools will be announced later, she added.

The Governor said that the decision was taken due to the identifying of COVID-19 patients during random PCR tests conducted in the area.

Reportedly, around 20 COVID-19 infections were identified in Akkaraipattu and another in Saindamardu, during random PCR tests.
