Sri Lanka’s Covid-19 death toll tops 100 with 08 new fatalities

Sri Lanka’s Covid-19 death toll moved past the grim milestone of 100 today (27) following the reports of 08 new deaths.

According to the Government Information Department, all of the victims were identified from the Colombo District and five of them have been determined as home deaths.

The details of the deceased are as follows:

One of the victims, 87-year-old woman, has succumbed to the virus on Monday (23) at her home in Colombo 13. The immediate cause of death was cited as a heart attack caused by Covid-19 infection.

A 54-year-old woman from Dematagoda area, who has been while battling cancer, died of Covid-19 pneumonia today. She was transferred to the Homagama Base Hospital from Apeksha Hospital in Maharagama after being diagnosed with novel coronavirus.

A woman, aged 78, also died of a heart attack induced by Covid-19 infection. According to reports, she had passed away on Wednesday (25) at her home in Maradana.

Another woman, a 58-year-old from Maligawatte, has died on Friday (26) of a heart attack caused by Covid-19 infection. Reports revealed that she had also been suffering from chronic renal disease. This was also recorded as a home death.

A 36-year-old man residing in Colombo 15 has died of a heart attack triggered by novel coronavirus. He was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital after testing positive for the virus and was later transferred to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH). The cause of death was determined as chronic lung disease and Covid-19 infection.

Meanwhile, an 83-year-old man, infected with Covid-19 died of a heart attack on Thursday (26) while at his home in Colombo 02 area.

Another man, who was of age 69, has passed away on Wednesday (25) at his home located in Colombo 13. His immediate cause of death was cited as Covid-19 pneumonia with a chronic lung disease with asthma.

In addition, an inmate at the Magazine Prison in Colombo has also fallen victim to the virus infection. The 70-year-old had died on Wednesday (25) while receiving treatment at the prison hospital. Kidney infection exacerbated by Covid-19 has been recorded as the cause of death. 

Thereby, total deaths from the virus outbreak in Sri Lanka now stand at 107.
