Minister of Education Prof. G.L. Peiris says the 2020 G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination will have to be postponed again if all schools in the country cannot be reopened soon.

His remarks came during the parliamentary session earlier today (28).

The 2020 O/L Examination was pushed back to next year due to the outbreak of Covid-19 virus and it was rescheduled to be held from the 18th to 27th of January 2021.

Several schools, except those in isolated areas and Western Province, were reopened on the 23rd of November, following a month-long closure.

Education minister said the exam will be postponed yet again if the prevailing situation does not allow all schools to be reopened within a week or two.

He added that a final decision on the matter is expected to be reached soon.

Responding to a question, the education minister noted that health authorities have given instructions not to resume sports activities even after schools were reopened, as students will not be able to maintain social distancing.
