Low-pressure area in Bay of Bengal to intensify further

The low-pressure area in the South-East Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a Depression during the next 36 hours and likely to intensify further, says the Department of Meteorology.

 

This likely to move nearly westwards to the North coast of Sri Lanka and it will affect the weather over the island and surrounding sea areas during next few days, the Department said.

 

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in Uva, Central, Western, and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 pm. 

 

Fairly heavy falls about 50 mm are likely at some places.

 

Showers can be expected at a few places in the Eastern province.

 

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

 

SEA AREAS

 

The low-pressure area in the south-east Bay of Bengal will affect the weather of surrounding sea areas during the next few days.

 

Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into the deep sea areas to the East coast of the Island (5N-12N, 85E-95E) until further notice.

 

Fishing and naval communities are requested to be vigilant and attentive about future bulletins issued by the Department of Meteorology in the next few days.

 

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the sea areas extending from Kankasanthurai to Potuvill via Trincomalee and Batticaloa in the evening.

 

Winds will be north-easterly in the sea areas around the island and the wind speed will be (25-35) kmph. The wind speed can increase up to 50kmph at times over the deep-sea area extending from Kankesanturai to Pottuvil via Trincomalee.

 

The sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate. The deep-sea areas extending from Kankesanturai to Pottuvil via Trincomalee can be fairly rough or rough at times.
