Confirmed COVID-19 cases in Sri Lanka surge past 23,000 mark

With another uptick in Covid-19 figures observed this evening (29), total infections confirmed in Sri Lanka surpassed 23,000 cases.

Department of Government Information confirmed that 323 more individuals linked to the Peliyagoda fish market cluster were tested positive for the virus.

Following the new development, total infections registered by the Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda cluster have reached 19,773.

Sri Lanka has recorded 23,321 infections since the first positive case was reported in March this year.

The Epidemiology Unit’s data revealed that 6,200 active cases are still under medical care.

Meanwhile, total coronavirus recoveries reported in the country increased to 17,002 earlier today.

The country has also witnessed 109 casualties due to the virus outbreak.
