Authorities directed to take measures to minimize damages from cyclonic storm

The government has directed relevant authorities to take necessary measures to minimize the damages from the cyclonic storm ‘Burevi’ which is set to make landfall in Sri Lanka tonight (02).

Department of Meteorology has warned that the cyclone is expected to blow across the Eastern Coast of Sri Lanka between 7 pm and 10 pm tonight (December 02).

Accordingly, the Director-General of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources has directed all District Assistant Directors and Divisional Fisheries Officers to notify all vessel owners to move the boats harboured at boatyards and on beaches further into land areas.

In addition, all Assistant Directors of Northern and Eastern provinces are instructed to coordinate with the officers in charge of all divisions and the fishing communities in this regard.

The government urged authorities to take immediate action to prevent the destruction of a large number of vessels owing to this natural disaster.
