Covid-19 cases from Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda cluster cross 23,000

Sri Lanka’s Covid-19 figures saw another surge today (04), as 269 more persons were tested positive for the virus.

The Government Information Department stated that 265 of the newly-identified patients are close contacts of earlier cases linked to the Peliyagoda fish market. Following the new development in Covid-19 figures, Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda dual cluster’s infections tally has reached 23,005.

In addition, 04 arrivals from foreign countries were also tested positive for the virus.

Accordingly, the island has registered a total of 521 active cases within the day.

As per Epidemiology Unit data, the total number of Covid-19 infections confirmed in the country to date now stands at 26,559.

Recoveries from the virus meanwhile climbed to 19,438 earlier today, as 406 more patients regained health.

However, 6,991 active cases are still under medical care at selected hospitals and treatment centres located across the island.
