The Department of Motor Traffic has decided to transfer nearly 600 of its employees with immediate effect.

Commissioner-General of the DMT, Mr Sumith Alahakoon said the transfers are being carried out under several stages.

Accordingly, these employees will be transferred to other government offices.

Mr Alahakoon noted that the transfers are coming into effect after considering the complaints filed by the public against DMT employees in question over bribery offences.

The transfers are expected to be effective from the 1st of January next year.

The decision was reached following a discussion held with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and subject minister, Mr Alahakoon said further.
