WJM now speaks for SLFP

Former Speaker of Parliament W.J.M. Lokubandara has joined the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) while participating at the Badulla-Bandarawela SLFP district organizers’ meeting this morning, say reports.


Mr. Lokubandara’s son Uditha Sanjaya Lokubandara was recently appointed the SLFP organizer for Haputale and is to contest the General Election under the UPFA ticket.

 

A senior United National Party (UNP) member, Wijesinghe Jayaweera Mudiyanselage Lokubandara, well known as W.J.M. Lokubandara or by his initials ‘Weejamu’, was the Speaker of the recently dissolved Parliament of Sri.

 

Lawyer, author and song writer, he has served as Minister in successive UNP governments. Sixty-nine-year-old Mr. Lokubandara is an old boy of Yahala-Bedda Schooland Bandarawela Central College.

 

An Arts Graduate of the Universityof Peradeniya he has also obtained an external Bachelor’s Degree in Arts from the University of London. He has also worked as an assistant legal draftsman.

 

Mr. Lokubandara first entered parliament in 1977 representing the (UNP) defeating former Cabinet Minister of Health W.P.G. Ariyadasa.
