More than 3 million deaths related to COVID-19 infection have been reported around the world, foreign media reported.

The Americas is reportedly the hardest hit, with the United States, Brazil and Mexico recording the highest number of deaths, which collectively stands at more than 1.1 million.

The United States has registered over 31.5 million cases. The cumulative U.S. death toll has surpassed 565,000. Meanwhile, Brazil’s COVID figures showed that more than 13.7 million cases and 365,000 deaths were logged since the outbreak of the pandemic.

India has also seen surges in COVID figures recently with over 14.3 million cases and 174,000 fatalities.

In the meantime, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Thursday (April 16) that more than 1 million people have died from COVID-19 in Europe.

The situation remains “serious,” with about 1.6 million new cases reported each week in the region, the WHO Europe Director Hans Kluge warned.
