Notorious gangster ‘Uru Juwa’ shot dead by police

The infamous underworld figure named Dineth Melon Mabula alias ‘Uru Juwa’ has been shot dead by the police today (May 11).

The incident took place in the area of Nawagamuwa, Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said.

The 27-year-old from Dedigamuwa area in Nawagamuwa, who had been wanted by the investigators over several cases of extortion and criminal activities, was arrested on Monday (May 10).

After recording an initial statement, ‘Uru Juwa’ was taken to a certain location in Wanduramulla area in Nawagamuwa police area today for further investigations, DIG Rohana said issuing a statement.

According to the police spokesperson, the suspect had sustained injuries in a shooting incident that had ensued and he was pronounced dead upon admission to Nawagamuwa Hospital.

Nawagamuwa Police has initiated investigations into the incident, DIG Rohana said further.
