The summary of evidence against General (retired) Sarath Fonseka has been completed and will be handed over to the authorities. He is to be tried on five charges framed against him according to the Army Act, Army spokesman Major General Prasad Samarasinghe told Adaderana a short while ago.
The Court Martial is to be convened very soon, the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Samarasinghe said that General Fonseka has been granted permission to speak to his two daughters over the phone. This has been granted by Army Commander Lt. General Jagath Jayasuriya on humanitarian grounds.
Sarath Fonseka yesterday embarked on a hunger strike demanding that he be allowed to speak to his daughters overseas, claiming that the facility he enjoyed had been stopped by the security personnel guarding him at the annex at Navy headquarters where he is being detained.
