Voted against emergency, but need security - Tissa

March 9, 2010   03:58 pm

The Government is using the emergency powers to intimidate the opposition, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayaka said at a press conference today. He added that since there is no terrorism in the country they voted against emergency in parliament today.

However when questioned why the opposition MPs needed security when such a threat is absent Attanayaka replied that the opposition MPs required the same security that is provided for Government MPs and not particularly because of a terrorist threat.
