The Cardiology Unit of the National Hospital in Colombo has been inconvenienced by the unavailability of water since yesterday (March 10) and several operations had been cancelled due to it, a relative of a patient who had visited the Unit at 6.30 am today told Adaderana.

However, when Adaderana contacted the National Hospital Director Dr. Hector Weerasinghe, he said that such a problem was faced yesterday (March 9) and that it was rectified by the National Water Supply and Drainage Board last evening.

Yet, even by 7.30 am today, patients warded in the Cardiology Unit were inconvenienced by the unavailability of water, according to reports reaching Adaderana.

They question why such a crucial Unit of the health sector has no back-up system to tide over such emergencies. They urge the Health Ministry to consider this aspect very seriously.
