Europe Laughs’

Today, when people in Europefrom different cultures encounter one another, their meetings do not necessarily lead to a dramatic “clash of cultures”. More often, in fact the mishaps and mix-ups that result from intercultural encounters hold the potential for a great deal of comic relief. Thus, the title of the package “Europe Laughs”.

These films belonging to the so called “culture clash comedy” exist in almost every EU country, and they often reveal more about the sensitivities and national idiosyncrasies of the inhabitants of a European country than many a theoretical essay addressing cultural differences.

The films will be featured at the Goethe-Institut auditorium at 5.30 pm from 15 to 20 March 2010.

The films include Born in Absurdistan (Austria 1999), Flowers From Another World (Spain 1999), Polska Love Serenade (Germany 2007), Red Coloured Grey Truck, (Serbia, Montenegro,Slovenia, 2004), Shouf Shouf Habibi (Netherlands 2004), Helsinki-Napoli all night long (Finland 1987), Black Rider (Germany - Oskar winning documentary) and many more.
