SC reprimands Sunday Leader, orders to carry apology

March 15, 2010   11:03 am

The Supreme Court today reprimanded the Sunday Leader chief editor Federica Janz over a contempt of court case lodged against the newspaper. The complaint claimed that the Sunday Leader published an opinion article defaming the deputy Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayaka.

Chief Justice Ashoka De Silva advised the newspaper to refrain from publishing such insulting articles in future.

Janz appearing in court apologized for any inconvenience caused by the article that was published. The Chief Justice had then ordered the Sunday Leader to carry an apology on the front page of the newspaper and also apologize to the Deputy Chief Justice in writing.
