Twenty-six arrested over selling 15-year-old girl for prostitution

A total of 26 individuals have been arrested so far over the incident of a 15-year-old girl being sold online for prostitution, Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said.

Another 16 are due to be arrested as per the investigations, he said.

Twenty of the arrested individuals are persons who had molested the minor while the remaining six are those who sold and transported the girl.

Among the arrestees is the mother of the child and the person who created the online advertisement, the Police said.

Reportedly, among 04 individuals arrested on July 01 are a Captain of a ship, his assistant, and a gem merchant.

An arrest has been made last night (July 02) as well and he is to be produced before the court today (July 03).

Details of more individuals were revealed when inspecting the mobile phone of the girl, the Police said.

The incident came to light during an investigation into a person arrested in Mount Lavinia on June 07.
