Females from the United National Front are contesting from ten districts at the upcoming General Elections and in time to come the party hopes to increase the percentage of female candidates, said United National Party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe this morning.

Presenting the United National Front women’s manifesto titled ‘Deya Dinawana Eya’, the UNP leader said that his party would also increase the number of women candidates in future Provincial Council elections too.

“Females who make up around 53 per cent of our population contribute immensely to the country’s economy. The main contributors being from the apparel and foreign employment sectors. We propose to increase another two per cent as incentive to the remittances sent to Sri Lanka by those females employed in West Asian countries,” added Mr. Wickremesinghe.

Ranil Wickremesinghe pledged that all promises in the women’s manifesto will be fulfilled by 2012.

The ceremony at the J.R. Jayewardene Centre in Colombo was addressed by UNP Women’s Wing head and former Ratnapura district Parliamentarian Thalatha Athukorale, Rosy Senanayake, Party Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya, General Secretary Tissa Attanayake among others.
