Chairman of Janashakthi W.T. Ellawala remarked on how well the Company had performed despite the global financial crisis and the trickle-down effect it had on Sri Lanka’s economy. “Despite unfavourable market conditions and attendant hardships, the management swiftly worked to overcome setbacks and consolidating public faith in the Company. We deeply appreciate the confidence, loyalty and trust you placed in the Company during this period.  It is this strength that enabled the Company to achieve what it did during the year”.

He said that the Company would continue to support the staff through training and skills development both locally and overseas so that staff can become achievers in a highly competitive market. “New programs for growing the business combined with market development strategies that will focus on the North and East markets have already been developed. These will be launched to support this new thrust”, he added.

Speaking at the occasion General Manager Sales and Marketing Ravi Liyanage said that 2009 was the real testimony which demonstrated resilience and an indomitable spirit as the Company overcame many challenges during 2009 in particular, both economic and statutory. “We took on the challenges with optimism and outperformed the industry average both by revenue and profitability”.

While congratulating the numerous winners, Managing Director Prakash Schaffter said, “I remember telling you last year that times would be hard and that you would have to work hard. That is exactly what you did and this resulted in our achieving a healthy growth in profits. We grew last year despite a lack of growth in the insurance industry. We are the symbols of professionalism and so we are proud to invest in you – our invaluable human resource. As true Ambassadors of the Company, every single one of you has the inherent potential to go out there conquer the market. Challenges bring out an inner resilience, thus resulting in accomplishments and achievements. I am proud to say that you richly personify these attributes”.

While expressing his deep appreciation of the sales force for their noteworthy accomplishments, Mr. Schaffter thanked the staff who travelled from far and wide, especially from the North and East, to share in the triumph and glory that evening.

This year’s theme highlighted “Going Beyond” depicting a space ambience with the whole hall covered with a star-lit curtain. The challenge of the conquest, the triumph of victory and the reward for the victor were carried into every aspect of the evening. Motivational videos depicting conquests in different spheres of life kept the audience enthralled as they focused on the triumphs of heroes, from the life stories of top outstanding achievers at Janashakthi, to well-known heroes and sequels in science fiction movies.

Creating a paradigm of excellence necessitates pursuing new initiatives and opportunities, and building on core competencies, which Janashakthi embraces by pushing boundaries to new heights and raising standards each year. This striving for excellence has reaped rich results and firmly positioned Janashakthi as a company that creates and markets some of Sri Lanka’s most recognised and innovative brands within a value system that goes beyond mere business objectives to embrace Transparency, Trustworthiness, Dynamism and Dependability, which are the very essence of the Janashakthi brand.
