The trade unions of teachers and principals have commenced a protest in front of the Colombo Fort Railway Station today (July 22).

According to Ada Derana correspondents, the protestors have marched up to the Presidential Secretariat.

Galle Road near the Presidential Secretariat is now blocked due to the demonstration.

Reportedly, several trade union representatives are holding a round of discussions with the officials of the Presidential Secretariat.

Teachers withdrew from conducting online lessons on July 12, demanding solutions for anomalies in salaries, ‘forced quarantining’ protesters, and several other issues.

A total of 17 trade unions representing school principals and teachers including the Ceylon Independent Teachers’ Services Union (ITSU) had joined the said strike.
