‘Potta Noufer’ dies of COVID-19

The notorious criminal figure, Mohamed Niyaz Noufer alias ‘Potta Noufer’ has died of COVID-19, the Department of Prisons announced.

He had passed away at around 7.30 pm today (August 28), Commissioner General of Prisons Chandana Ekanayake confirmed.

The cause of his death has been identified as complications of kidney disease caused by coronavirus infection.

‘Potta Noufer’, the main suspect of the murder of High Court Judge Sarath Abepitiya, had been imprisoned under a death sentence.
