M 4.1 earthquake in deep seas off Hambantota; NO tsunami threat

An earthquake has occurred in the deep seas 160 km southeast of Hambantota, earlier today (September 12), the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) confirmed.

The earthquake had marked 4.1 points on the Richter scale, GSMB Chairman Anura Walpola stated.

However, this poses no threat of a Tsunami to the island, he added.
