Health trade unions on token strike today

October 8, 2021   06:41 am

Health trade unions are going on a five-hour token strike today (October 08) over several demands.

They decided to launch the trade union action against the move to suspend the allowance of Rs. 7,500 given to health workers during the period of COVID-19 pandemic and several other issues.

Accordingly, functions at island-wide hospitals will come to a temporary halt from 7.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon.

A total of 44 health trade unions will jointly initiate today’s token strike and a series of protests will be staged in front of hospitals across the island, the chairman of Government Nursing Officers’ Association, Saman Rathnapriya said.

The health trade unions are planning to resort to a more severe trade union action if their issues are not resolved.
