Sri Lanka extends interprovincial travel restrictions

October 8, 2021   12:31 pm

Ongoing interprovincial travel restrictions in Sri Lanka will be extended until the 21st of October, the President’s Media Division (PMD) announced today.

Sri Lanka lifted the island-wide quarantine curfew, which was in effect for over a month in a bid to curb the pandemic situation, on October 01 as the country started seeing a considerable drop in the number of daily COVID-19 cases and deaths reported.

The interprovincial travel restrictions however remained in effect despite the relaxation of quarantine curfew.

The Special Committee on COVID-19 Control, in a virtual meeting held this morning, decided that interprovincial travel restrictions should be extended further to keep the situation under control.
