Carrying out election propaganda and establishing election offices in the polling divisions of Kandyand Trincomalee where re-polling is to be held has been prohibited by the Elections Commissioner(EC).

Due to various election malpractises and violence in 34 polling divisions in Navalapitiya and one division in Trincomalee the Elections Commissioner annulled the results of Thursday’s General Elections. Re-polling is to be held on April 20 in those divisions.

The Elections Secretariat said that though requests had been made by politicians seeking permission to carry out propaganda before the re-poll the Commissioner had declined the request.
