Mumbai, Apr 18 (PTI): Noting that non-violence can lead to world peace, President Pratibha Patil today said relevance of the “middle path” propagated by Gautam Buddha is felt in the present turbulent times also where terrorism is creating havoc globally.
Addressing the ‘Mahadhama conference’ organised by Bikhu Sanggha’s United Bhuddhist Mission, Mumbai, Patil said only non-violence can lead to world peace.
She said Buddha’s teachings help to overcome imbalance in our life and give up extremism.
Patil said several great men like Emperor Ashok and Mahatma Gandhi were influence by Buddha’s teachings as they felt that they can work for welfare state by maintaining a balance between “thoughts” and “action”.
She said Buddhism stresses on eradicating discrimination in the society. “This can be done by improving the standard of living of the neglected sections of the society.”
