Actor Sampath Tennakoon passes away

Actor Sampath Tennakoon, who was well-known for his performances in stage dramas, has passed away while receiving treatment at a private hospital, family sources announced.

After embarking on his acting career through the stage drama Guru Lipi directed by Dayaratne Ratagedara, Tennakoon has acted performed in a number of stage dramas including Thalamala Pipila, Puthra Samagama, Guru Tharuwa, Sudu Redi Horu, Romaya Gini Ganee, Hitler, Ambu Semiyo, Numba Witharak Theleluyi.

He also acted in several teledramas, namely Randoratuwa, Bumuthurunu and Bhagya as well as in movies such as Ahas Maliga, Madhuri, Giniawi Saha Ginikeli, Saroja, Paththini, Siri Perakum and Siri Raja Siri.

Tennakoon was aged 62 at the time of his demise. He is survived by his wife, veteran actress Rathna Lalani Jayakody.
