147 suspects arrested in special police operation

Police have arrested a total of 147 suspects in a special operations carried out covering the Western Province within the last 24 hours. 

The Police Headquarters said that the arrested suspects include those held for the possession of illicit drugs, illicit alcohol and cigarettes as well as those with wanted for various crimes and with pending warrants.

11,162 vehicles and 15,685 persons have been searched during this operation. 

Sri Lanka Police said that police operations will be carried out using checkpoints and mobile patrols within the Western Province with the aim of preventing crime during the festive season.
